@jonmorosi: NL Central has more teams with a .550 or better win percentage (three) than the entire American League (two). @FOXSports

Pirates with higher winning % than every team in the AL but KC.

I was wrong about A.J. Burnett. I thought he was done.

I know he said that he is retiring after this season, but fuck he looks like he could pitch for 3 or 4 more years

It would be great if he retires.... because the Bucs win it all. Otherwise, you have to think it would be great to talk him into another year.

The Pirates' team ERA is 2.83. The Cardinals are at 2.65...the 3rd lowest team ERA is 3.27...the pitching they have gotten is incredible. Hell, Liriano's numbers look mediocre compared to Cole and AJ, but the main difference is that neither of them has had a start where they got bombed...take out the debacle against the Twins, Liriano's ERA is 2.47. On paper the Nats' big 3 of Scherzer, Strasburg, and Zimmerman would be better, but no one is pitching better than the top of the Pirates' rotation.

Now if they can just do something about Jeff Locke.

I think he had considered retiring before the 2014 season as well. I think the pre-2015 talk about retirement was based on being in Philly and the crappy year that he had last year. Now that he's back in Pittsburgh and performing really well again, I wouldn't be surprised if he could be convinced to come back again in 2016. Especially if they make it to the NLCS or World Series and come up just short, I could see him coming back to finish it off.

The Pirates now have a 4-game lead in the loss column for a playoff spot.
