I wonder what that Ramirez guy would look like in a Pirates uniform.

Cutch is fine in the third spot the problem is that Josh Harrison doesn't belong hitting in front of him

Yeah. Let Polanski leadoff (at least against righties) and leave Cutch in the third spot. Put Cervelli second for a while. Keeps some speed at the top of the lineup and puts a good contact hitter in a position to drive in El Coffee and/or get on base in front of Cutch.
"We’ll be comfortable adding one (starter),” he said. “We’ll be comfortable adding nobody if it’s just not there. We don’t feel we are driven to force it. If we can add one that makes sense for us, that’s great. If we can add two that make sense … then we do that.”
Opie Taylor. In a decisive moment.

I'm fine if McCutchen hits second or third, the difference is negligible. I don't understand the resistance to hitting Cervelli higher in the order. Once again, this is an instance where the "experts" (read the manager) know better but they really don't. He's leading the team in hitting, OBP, and he's third in walk percentage.

Hurdle isn't focused on what is most important. He's focused on speed, while the ability to get on base is much more important than speed. Cervelli isn't really a base clogger, so why not hit him higher in the order, at least while he's getting on base at a .400+ clip.

Hurdle's focus on secondary abilities like speed are just another reason this team wins in spite of him, not because of him.

Funny how the Cardinals finally go on a losing streak and the Pirates do the same.

Not to just be disagreeable, but you do want a high-average hitter somewhere around #6 or 7 to drive in guys ahead of him.

And, for real : how many games this year has the lower middle of the order (that goes with pitches) been where the hits & runs have been generated after the top of it's gone down hacking ?

It's something you almost expect. Like rallies starting with two outs.

I think that injuries are starting to catch up to the Cardinals - they've now lost their best starting pitcher, two of their best offensive players, and this after their top prospect died in the off-season. It's obviously an extremely well run organization, but nobody has enough depth or talent to sustain those type of losses in the long run.

But if they are lesser hitters, they are getting on base less frequently than your high average hitters.

The logic is pretty simple, higher OBP types should hit higher in the lineup (generally speaking). Because most hitters do hit better with runners on base, having your best OBP types at the top could make the lesser ones somewhat better.
