Maybe they save money on Newman and pick Cameron at 32.

Keith Law has Newman as the 2nd best player in the class:

The best college hitter in the class, Newman can stay at shortstop, is a plus runner and has hit everywhere he has played by employing great hand-eye coordination and excellent bat speed. The lack of power might turn off some teams, but he's strong enough to drive the ball once he closes his stance.

Keith law ranks Newman 2nd overall in the draft.
I am nevertheless too sensible of my defects not to think it probable that I may have committed many posting errors.

I always turn to the sports pages first, which records people's accomplishments. The front page has nothing but man's failures.

That's just stupid. They WILL use all of their draft $$$...they always do. In fact, before they changed the rules they spent more than anyone else.

If you can take a guy 10-15 spots earlier and use the $$$ to sign a guy later that is significantly better than the other players at that point in the draft, you do it. Especially in a draft as week as this.

It's a strategy not cheapness. Stop being obtuse.

@BucsDugout So apparently, Kevin Newman hit no homers in his college career. Zero. Not the kiss of death, obviously, but ...

I think I just read somewhere he finally hit his first a couple weeks ago.

Least shocking post ever

Keith Law absolutely loves this pick even more so than his scouting reports suggest, his Twitter feed is praising it
