The entire WV team has hit like shit. An interesting guy seems to be Montana DuRapau, so far this year between WV and Bradenton:

40.2 IP
14 Hits
5 Earned Runs
3 Walks
36 Strikeouts
.42 WHIP
1.11 ERA

I was told that this was the deepest farm system we've had in years. And that lies like that were worth $2.99 per month.

Seems like he must have a funky delivery or something. That or he is very lucky this year. Not a lot of strikeouts for the video game WHIP numbers. Must be soft contact. That will likely stop the higher up he gets.

Still worth keeping an eye on though. Especially for less than $2.99.

Nearly a K per inning isn't bad at all.

Not bad but with a WHIP south of 0.50 that is a lot of contact.

David Todd sent out a tweet earlier this afternoon showing the Pirates are 27th in MLB is ISO (They were 9th in ISO last year, and 11th in 2013). This offense is completely starved of any power, and there doesn't seem to be any help along the way. Here are the Pirates top 12 "hitting" prospects -

Player - HR - ISO
Josh Bell - 3 - .119
Austin Meadows - 2 - .089
Alen Hanson - 4 - .141
Reese McGuire - 0 - .036
Willy Garcia - 5 - .120
Harold Ramirez - 1 - .095
Elias Diaz - 3 - .111
Max Moroff - 3 - .104
JaCoby Jones - 8 - .128
Cole Tucker - 2 - .070
Barrett Barnes - 6 - .196
Jose Osuna - 6 - .141

Basically, there are only 3 players that have acceptable Isolated Power numbers for their position - Alen Hanson, Barrett Barnes, and Elias Diaz (borderline). JaCoby Jones is okay I guess if he can remain at SS, but all indications seem to indicate he's not going to be able to.

It's good that all of these guys except for Jones and Garcia have K% under 20%, most under 17%, but at some point, these kids need to start banging extra base hits, and preferrably some HR. Josh Bell is now at 3 HR in his last 610 plate appearances between A+, AFL, and AA. Even if you go back to when he hit his first one this year, he's at 3 HR in his last 229 plate appearances, which is putrid for a 1B, no matter where he plays his home games.

@stephenjnesbitt Jameson Taillon (lower abdomen discomfort) is going to get a second opinion this week.

I'm betting on sports hernia.

If that's the case count him out for the rest of the season. Hopefully he'll recover in time for Arizona Fall League.

Not necessarily. You can recover in 2-6 weeks.

If it's closer to 6 weeks, that puts him mid-August. Without throwing a pitch in a real game situation this season, that effectively ends his season. He might get a token start or two at the end of the GCL season, but I don't expect him to see any other live competition. He'd likely go right into Fall Instructional League after that to build up some innings.

I never thought Taillon would pitch in Pittsburgh this year. Still, whatever the injury is, Taillon will miss enough time that he won't pitch for the Pirates in the pen or anywhere else this year.

If he is out until August, he's basically missed two seasons of development. If that happens, the earliest we can expect to see him in the majors is mid-June next year.

Indy's season runs through September 7th. If Taillon can be back in 6 weeks, that gives him 4 weeks of the season left. I'm not suggesting that's a good thing, but there's a very solid chance he pitches again this year if in fact it's a hernia.

Nice to have one upside HS guy to root for. Seeing the college guys go 0-4 or 1-5 with a single has been pretty boring since the draft.

Keith Law said Glasnow is sitting at 95 tonight, I just watched his second inning and the curveball he threw to get a K looking was filthy.
