I know most people here reject the NBA like Dikembe Mutombo blocking one of my lay-ups, but the season starts tonight.

The Sixers are still in Tankapalooza mode: Part II and my Spurs are trying to fend off age and the entire league gunning for them (well also Cleveland will have a big target on its back). Miami basketball is no more, Lebron and Kevin Love are in Cleveland and just today Sacramento's GM said it will start experimenting with playing 4 on 5 on defense to permit a cherry picker in its D-League outfit.

Good times.

Knicks opener is tomorrow at home against the Bulls. I'm not expecting much out of the Knicks this season. The Lakers (Phil Jackson, D Fish and Kurt Rambis) came in and took over.

Phil immediately started overhauling the roster by trading Tyson Chandler (plus Raymond Felton) back to the Mavs, in exchange for Jose Calderon, Samuel Fucking Dalembert and draft picks, one of which we used on Cleanthony Early.

I don't expect to make the playoffs this year.

Tim Asshole Williams is an asshole, even in NBA threads.

Oh, on another note, I think Denver is going to be a fun team to watch this season.

Everyone hates Kobe.

"Peek behind the banners," says one longtime NBA agent, "and it's rotten."

"Kobe is like the big rock in their front yard," says an agent who has had a Lakers client in recent years. "You can't mow over it, so you just have to mow around it."

Another agent with current Lakers clients was asked whether Bryant undermined the team's rebuilding by alienating would-be free agent recruits. "Well, duh," he replied. "Isn't that obvious?"

It's ridiculous how stacked the West is again. Non-elite playoff teams in that conference -- Rockets, Mavs, Blazers, Warriors, Grizzles, etc. -- would probably be a top three seed in the East and talented teams like New Orleans and Phoenix likely won't even sniff the playoffs.

The Sixers might be the worst team of all time. They're not even trying.

Steven Adams finally gets the starting nod over that pile of shit Perkins.

Do you guys remember the days on ESPN when you could try to respond to all the threads and see your name all down the board?

For the team, Durant being out until December might keep him fresh for the playoffs. Sucks for the fans, I love watching him play and he's in a contract year (like he's not getting a max deal). I think this is the year for OKC and they win it. OKC over the clippers in the west, Cleveland over Chicago in the east just barely ( I think Cleveland is a year from total domination).

I can't wait to see how bad the 76ers will be. They might struggle to win 12 games

I know less about basketball than most, but while perusing the NBA depth charts yesterday, I noticed the New Orleans Pelicans have a nice roster. I also read that an article stating that in a poll of GMs asking besides Lebron and Durant, what player would you want to build around, Anthony Davis won in a landslide. Since I have no NBA loyalties besides a fleeting interest in the Wizards since my wife's cousin lives in the DC suburbs and we can easily and cheaply attend NBA games that way, I may root for the Pelicans this year and call myself the smartest person in the room when Davis goes apeshit and the Pelicans go deep in the playoffs.

I think this is a really, really risky strategy that could alienate their long-suffering fanbase to the point that, if they finally DO get good someday, there are few people left that will care.

Everyone understands that in the NBA, a team needs to completely tank it every now and then to take a shot at a top draft pick. And fans will put up with that- for one year. But I truly cannot remember a team intentionally trying to be completely terrible for multiple years in a row like Philly is doing now.

For the life of me, I still can't believe they had 2 top-10 picks in one of the deepest drafts in recent NBA history, and they have fucking ZERO players that will be playing for them this year to show for it. None. So even if they are successful in Tank Mode, v2, whose to say they take advantage of it?

I would've gone Exum #3 overall, and not looked back.

If the Sixers become good again, the fans will return.

I just don't like the overtness of it all. If it were a situation like the NFL or MLB where the worst record would result in the top overall pick, I'd say tank away. But the Sixers are driving away fans and worsening the league's product for the guarantee of a top four pick and THAT'S IT; Aaron Gordon and Dante Exum are both very talented, but it would've looked kinda bad last summer had they chosen fourth overall and missed out on one of Wiggins, Parker and Embiid.

You can be bad and still appear to be trying. I'm not sure why the Sixers don't give it a shot.

The biggest question with Davis down here in the New Orleans area is whether he can stay healthy for an entire season. He missed 18 games his first season and 15 last season.

Sixers kept it competitive with Indiana tonight. So there's that.

He's going to average 30+ a game while Durant is out. Shots and points.
