Ok, now I know we don't have a ton of soccer fans on the site, but this is the biggest sporting event our earth has and it's not even close.

Regardless, the fun starts at 3:30pm on Thursday with Brazil and Croatia in Sao Paolo. Luka Modric is a really creative player for Croatia, and they should give Brazil some competition, but their big time forward, Mario Mandzukic is suspended. Brazil isn't that great in the midfield, but Hulk, Fred, and Neymar should be really fun to watch up top and their defenders I think are underrated. They've got guys on the bench that would start for almost everyone else - David Luiz starts at centerback for Chelsea for example. Regardless, Brazil should win this one going away, I say 2-0.

It will be interesting to see if they can get Corinthians new stadium fully complete with all the wiring, fixings and whatnot done before the opening match. That being said, the stadium looks amazing with it's all white seats. Pretty awesome, really.

I put $5 on South Korea to win their group and $5 on Argentina to sweep the group stage. Gives me something to look forward to besides team USA and Italy matches.

With the bracket they're in, there's very little point in making that effort.

Pretty pumped for this, a bunch of us take numerous days off work, drink, watch the games, play some pickup during the off times. It will be nice to have a little respite from work and relax.

Everything depends on the first game. If they manage to beat Ghana I think they might be able to steal a point out of their last two games. Particularly if Arod Ronaldo remains a bit gimpy.
I am nevertheless too sensible of my defects not to think it probable that I may have committed many posting errors.

I always turn to the sports pages first, which records people's accomplishments. The front page has nothing but man's failures.

Easiest way out of groups (if i'm not mistaken) beat ghana and tie portugal while at the same time hoping germany beats portugal when they play each other.

If germany wins the division quickly then we can set ourselves up pretty well for our game against them.

Strange browser experience today: When I read a thread and hit "back" the World Cup Thread is gone. Every time. All morning. Regardless of what thread I'm reading.

But if I hit refresh or the "change in atmosphere" link above, it returns. And then the whole process repeats.

I work for a public school. They only allow Internet Explorer. Piratey.

And after any goals the US allows a plea for Tony Meola is acceptable.

C.B. Bucknor is center reffing this Croatia v Brasil match.

What a horrible call in the box to give Brasil the lead on a PK.

given our infrastructure, the US could be given about a weeks notice and would pull off hosting the World Cup just fine. An we wouldn't even need slave labor and thousands dead.
