Wheres the TV thread? Anyways they just released the 2nd trailer for Game of Thrones. I'm harder than a diamond in the land north of the wall.

Other than GOT, anything worth watching on HBO for the $15 or whatever it is a month?

I'm still sticking to not watching Game of Thrones anymore. I stopped before last season when the show got ahead of the books (which are far superior).

They've diverged into pretty much two completely seperate stories at this point, so if you're doing it so as to not spoil the books, I don't know what to tell you.

On the odd chance that they get something the same, I don't want to spoil it. And more, I don't want my mental model of the characters to change to something that isn't true. My favorite example is Sam Tarly. He is a true coward. He has never stood up to be heroic. It is who he is. The tv show changed that a long time ago. I have no need to enter non-consistent information into my impression of the characters or the story.

As someone said here before, there aren't many(any?) great fantasy TV shows, but there are many great fantasy novels. So I want to enjoy this one on TV. I stopped after the second book and will probably go back someday. There's also a very very high chance that Martin dies before he finishes the series. He's morbidly obese, old, and writing at a snails pace.

I have no problem with anyone watching the show. I have many friends that watch it whether or not they have read, are reading or will read future books. I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority. Hell, the tv shows will still be there after I read whatever books do come out.

But one thing I do know is that Jon Snow is dead. Apparently there are a bunch of people under the deluded notion that he is alive.

Yeah they diverged but the end game is the same. GRRM already sat down with D&D and told them how everything is going to shake out. Are some things going to be different? Yeah, but the ending is the same.

Oh you sweet summer child. Join me in the delusional hope that GRRM will finish Winds of Winter in the next 2 years. Its all sunshine and rainbows around here when you have hope!

Oh I don't have hope. It's more of learned helplessness.

Hope didn't help when Robert Jordan died before finishing the Wheel of Time series.

I've heard that Brandon Sanderson did a pretty good job of it though. GRRM said though that if he dies he doesn't want anyone else finishing his work. I mean I get it, but I wish he would. Just even from teh standpoint that I like the Game of Thrones universe.

Well, I'm glad he did it for the closure. I'm not sure it was good though. In some sense he did a better job of finishing it that Jordan did, because he actually DID finish it. On the other hand, I really can't remember how it ended, so that isn't good. I wasn't the biggest fan of his writing. I have no real urge to read any of his other stuff (Mistborn?).

I heard that multiple HBO spinoffs are being planned so you won't have to worry about the universe dying. Also he apparently gave them the biggest plot points like(spoiler for oblong)

Spoiler

So the main points will be hit on and I believe he's given them the story through the end. At least how he sees it now.

Its not so much that because I heard those will be prequels. Its more the rest of the world. The rest of Essos, Sothoryos, Ulthos and stuff. The Five Forts, City of the Winged Men, Bonetown, The Great Sand Sea the lands east of Asshai. He only mentioned it in his The Lands of Ice and Fire books which means he probably just made them up and has no intention on expanding on them. But itd be cool if he did.

I did see there were they had 4 or 5 spinoff ideas, one around The Tales of Dunk and Egg?

So Jon Snow is dead eh?

Wow. Was somebody else already named director, and then stepped down?

Rogue One completely reversed my stance on Star Wars spin-off movies.

In fact, I loved it so much that it almost made Episode VII look comical in comparison.

Yeah they split due to creative differences. So they picked Ron Howard to pick up next. It was these guys: https://en.wikipedia...istopher_Miller

Idk there work is meh. I liked 21 Jump Street, never watched the Lego movies or Cloudy with a chance of meatballs. 22 jump street I thought sucked.

The Dunk and Egg books are decent. Its an interesting side of Westeros when the Targaryens were still the rulers.
