I think you underrate how much the Fleury redemption story has mattered to them. Seriously, go watch an interview with any of them. Look at how their face lights up when Fleury's name comes up. Heck, just read the quotes:

That's Guentzel - a rookie - saying that.

Repeating as champion is really hard in any sport, but particularly in hockey. The Fleury redemption story is buttressing their desire to repeat. Removing that risks a lot, even if Murray is better, when you are making the decision on one period of play where they, the defense, hung Fleury out to dry.

I think you are underestimating their ability to play as professionals. One of their best players is out, and they have been able to win. Or do they not like Letang? Hell Dupois had to quit hockey and this team won. You are overplaying the emotion big time.

Tom Sestito plays with intensity.

Trevor Gillies, too. And he blows.

PS And for the record DJF, I never called you an "asshole" in this thread. Not once.

On the contrary, you called me an "asshole" twice, and Jermaine Allensworth an "asshole" once. I've been called an "asshole" by at least 4 separate posters in this thread, and Antonio Brown has also randomly been called an "asshole" in this thread.

Here, check it out yourself, since you are fond of reading comprehension:

You are an asshole.

Playing as professionals does not mean they play without emotion. And I would point out that Dupuis was one of the first people to get the cup last year.
I am nevertheless too sensible of my defects not to think it probable that I may have committed many posting errors.

I always turn to the sports pages first, which records people's accomplishments. The front page has nothing but man's failures.

I mean, that exchange with DJF basically sums things up on the board lately pretty well.

He's apparently all fired up at me because I called him an asshole. Yet when you actually take a lot at the thread, I never called him anything, while he actually called me an asshole multiple times.

That's CIA in a nutshell for you.

So was Daley, who got hurt. I never said they play without emotion. They are not going to play like pussies because their friend is on the bench.

I didn't say they did. Nor am I saying that this is THE REASON they win, this year or last. But an extra 1% to 5% in some situations matters a great deal. These guys care about each other, and they clearly care about Fleury.

You just seem to have made up your mind early in the playoffs this year that this team wasn't going to do well, whether it was because Fleury was in goal instead of Murray, whether it was due to their injuries, matchups, or what have you.

So now every time the Pens have a bad game, we get this sort of chicken-little-sky-is-falling type thing. It's just kind of odd, that's all.

I say it when they win, too. Because they are not the same team. They are fortunate to be this far.

Yep.

Renaud Lavoie @renlavoietva
Matt Murray first out this morning. Had his own net at practice. He will face the @Senators tonight. Marc-André Fleury doing extra.

Fuck. I do not feel good about that decision. But then, I'm more worried about the rest of the team than the goalie.
IS THIS THE GAME THREAD???

If there was any doubt as to who the Penguins see as their No. 1 goalie, at least as far as the coaches are concerned, it has been removed.

Justin Schultz, Bryan Rust and Patric Hornqvist are all out again. That combined with the state of the defense is going to make the goalie discussion irrelevant. Tough times,

Holy shit the media/fan firestorm this has caused. Bob Nutting has to be dancing a jig right about now.
``We’ve got some holes we’re looking to fill. We don’t feel like we desperately have to do anything. We’re in a great spot to be in. If we can upgrade, outstanding. Upgrade at an appropriate acquisition cost, even better.’’

Booooooo!!!!!!

I was right when I said they would win game 7 against the Caps, I plan on being right when I say they will win tonight. The defense may be crap but I think they can still beat the Senators as is. I think the scoring damn breaks tonight and they put several pucks behind Anderson.
You're pretty on the inside,
That's better than not pretty at all,
You're pretty on the inside,
Too bad I'm an outside kinda pretty guy.

Obviously I think it is the wrong decision under these circumstances. Hopefully I will be wrong and it will work out anyway.
