That post was great, but I also wouldn't rule out NH putting pressure on Hurdle to play Hudson in higher-leverage situations, because he's scared shitless over how much of Bob Nutting's money he just blew on Daniel Fucking Hudson, and wants to trade him ASAP.

Unfortunately Neal, no one will take this mistake off your hands. You chose to pay Daniel F. Hudson $11,000,000. Now bend over and take it.

Yep. Hudson stinx. Because Bob Nutting is cheap.

WATSON in to protect a 3 - 1 lead with no outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd in top of seventh. Let me guess how this turns out.

You agreeing with defdog is proof beyond a shadow of a doubt that the premise is wrong. I get the whole "Nutting is cheap and evil" thing. That doesn't mean that theres a connection between between dumping Liriano and in signing Nova to a free agent contract. At the time, they didn't even know that Nova be interested in signing long term with the Pirates. Sometimes two separate deals are two separate deals. And playing th "Nutting is cheap card" doesn't change that.

Now you're being a bit naive though. If we want to be honest, Bob Nutting has the resources to have one of the top 10 payrolls in all of baseball, because he's one of the top 10 richest owners in baseball.

But we don't, because he's despicable, and cares about winning only to the extent that it can earn him a profit.

So in that context, I do believe defdog is correct. Neal Huntington is annually faced with such tradeoffs. "Well Neal, if you want X amount of dollars, then you're going to have to free up X amount of salary by trading or non-tendering players you currently have."
