It's a sub. With hoagie a rather distant second.

Whatever sub type I am looking to get, it absolutely MUST have shredded lettuce. The more finely shredded the better. None of this whole leaf shit.

Hoagie. What else would you call it?

Meatball hoagie. Extra meat. 12 inches. Extra cheese.

Sub or hoagie.

A grinder is a handheld power tool or a hockey player. Who the fuck calls sandwiches "grinders?"

Isn't a grinder a specific hoagie/sub/sandwich? Like fried bologna/salami with cheese and oil? And more cost effective for all the "grinders" out there who can't afford to tip $20 on $20.

Grinders

This sandwich variation is well-known among New Englanders, and can be served warm or cold. Instead of cold cuts and cheese, you might also find grinders filled with meatballs or sliced chicken breast.

One theory is that these long sandwiches got their name because they require so much grinding or chewing.

Aren't alot of hipsters now eating open-face sandwiches? Ones with egg or avocado baked into the top?

To keep their carbs down, because they all are on keto diets and deathly afraid of gluten.

Personally I'm all for a hot roastbeef open-face slathered in gravy.

That is really the only good open face sandwich. If someone wants to argue about the turkey equivalent, I can go with that one too.

They're hoagies. And my favorite is from a little place here in Kittanning called "Millers Hoagies". They serve a 10" that's stuffed with cold cuts, cheese, shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and finely sliced onion. Same sandwich they've been serving since I was kid.

Italian hoagie. I like no others from any place.

It's not that I don't like hoagies, I just love Italian hoagies.

There was a restaurant called the Organ Grinder in Toronto.

I think people from Boston call them grinders.

We share the same favorite sandwiches...and I agree that the only reason to not eat a sandwich by hand is because it is covered in gravy. There is a chain down here called McAlister's, and they have a sandwich called the Big Nasty, which is roast beef on a baguette covered in gravy and cheese.

Banh mis are great sandwiches too, but I do not think they are called subs or hoagies.

I voted Sub, however, I do understand calling certain types hoagies and other subs. Whoever the fuck said Meatball Hoagie is a complete communist, it's a Meatball Sub, always and forever.

So where do Primanti's sandwiches fall in?

By the way, if you are ever in Hermosa Beach, CA and you see the New York Pizza/Pittsburgh Sandwiches place, stay away. It's definitely not New York Pizza and the Pittsburgh Sandwiches suck so bad they blow. The Fries on the sandwich were flavor strands of starchy string. The cole slaw was little more than fresh off the head sliced cabbage. Worst of all, it was on a roll. If it's a roll, it's not a fucking sandwich.
