You would think having the second coming of Bobby Orr on the blue line would give the Flyers a better power play

I'm thinking anyone not named Pouliot, under 40, and can skate, should show up at that tryout. Because it seems like the world would have to end for him to play 3 NHL games in a week.

Malkin being held out tonight with an upper body injury. Ron Hainsey out week-to-week.

The NHL is probably the last sport that would see its coaches or teams give their stars regular rest down the stretch the way Popovich does in the NBA, but it is the sport that could probably use it the most.

I really liked when the NHL strike-shortened season was 62 games. It felt like the right amount, games were more frequent in a shorter time period of calendar, and the players seemed to get less beat up as well. I was also more interested early in the season, because each game meant that much more.

With the money on the line here, obviously NO professional sport is ever going to vote for contracting the season, but I think it was a much better fit for the NHL.

I now have the exact same firm grasp on what goalie interference is in the NHL as I have on what a catch is in the NFL.

So, uh, what the hell is wrong with Matt Murray?

A slump that has coincided with playing behind a pretty crappy defense.

I haven't really thought he's been that bad. A lot of the time he is being totally hung out. He made a lot of big saves in this game.

Sounds like Pouliot had a great game. He's not going to play much having games like tonight.
Jose Tabata, Pedro Alvarez, and Andrew McCutchen are the new Jason Kendall, Brian Giles, and Kevin Young (in his prime) players that are good, but surrounded by crap which will make them losers.
Who needs a good team on the field when you have fireworks and bobbleheads!

Players since 1990 to lead the NHL in goals and points in the same season.

Alex Ovechkin (2007-08)
Jarome Iginla (2001-02)
Mario Lemieux (1995-96)

Sidney Crosby is leading the league in both categories with 11 games to play (he also missed six games this year).

Derrick Pouliot sent down. Frank Corrado and Oskar Sundqvist recalled.

Will be interesting to see if Corrado was truly a deadline target, or was just an unintended consequence from a smart salary dump.

I've always liked Sundqvist. I know he only has a handful of points in the 20 or so games he's been called up, but he seems to have a lot of potential.

I think he was somebody they think he has some upside and they can work with. Dumping Fehr's salary was probably the main goal, but I think they see something in Corrado. Sundqvist may never be anything more than a third or fourth line center but he could be a pretty darn good one.

Nothing wrong with that, need some 3rd and 4th line guys that can get the job done and not cost too much.

Kris Letang's wife is going to be on a reality show called Hockey wives. Should probably trade him before this destroys the team.
