  1. Hey guys

    17 April 2017 - 05:22 PM

I need a break. Lots of things going on. Need to unplug for a while, though I'll check in and so forth and lurk. Going to take all of my concentration to finish the process of selling the book. A lot of it is out of my hands now, but I will do what I can to speed it along. I'm just overwhelmed with the way things are at the moment with long weeks, a second kid on the way, squeezing in time to write and take manuscript meetings, and I've had a lot on my plate and on my mind and this isn't fun at the moment so I'm stepping out. But I'll be on the porch.

    Pirates win 90 games.

Penguins at least advance to the finals.

Steelers lose to the Patriots in the playoffs.

    There's my accountability for now.

    Oh, and fuck the Ravens.

I'm more excited by a Shnoah appearance than I was for opening day.

    Stick around, bro.

    Poops his pants.
  5. Pirates Predictions/Accountability Thread?

    18 March 2016 - 01:47 PM

Ok. So, like, no obvious predictions allowed. Cutch as team MVP is too easy. We can make predictions about anything we please. I think it might be fun to pop back in to this thread during the season. But I really stinx at starting threads, so maybe we never do anything with this.

Wins - 95. I don't know why, but the more I look at the roster the more I like it. I am not pleased with the way they refused to go all in, but I have a better feeling about this team now that my anger has subsided. I actually think the offense will be better this year.

MVP - Starling Marte. A big part of this team staying in the hunt for the division (if it happens) could be a breakout year from good ol' Marge. He's already good, and maybe even underrated because he doesn't put up eye-popping numbers. He'll put up 25 homers and an OPS+ of 145.

Surprise season (bad) - Liriano. Injuries, man. He's due.

Surprise season (bueno) - Nicasio. I was tempted to put Polanco or Harrison here. I think they're both going to improve considerably from 2015. But Nicasio. In fact, I feel so strongly about Nicasio that this almost violates my only rule, which is to avoid obvious predictions.

Most "important" month of the season - Without my rule, I would have said July. I would actually have picked mid July to mid August if I could. Cutch will be on fire at that point and you take your wins when you can get them. But my official pick is May. My reason is the rotation. By May we've already seen enough of at least one of the top 5 that we'll all know it's time to move on. Whether they do or not will play a huge role in determining their success.

Plot twist - Cutch loses semi-significant time due to a flukey injury and the Pirates go over .500 during his time on the DL.

Biggest rookie contributor (hitter/pitcher) - Alen Hanson/Jameson Taillon. These don't violate my rule because Bell/Glasnow would have been more obvious. But barely. I'm sold on Taillon. If he can stay healthy I see no performance-related reason for why I'm reading that his ceiling is no longer in ace territory.

Plot twist 2 - There will be some scandal not related to any players. Coonley gets popped again or someone steals the parrot costume. Something is coming.

Plot twist 3 - The Pirates are good again and talk begins about teams wanting to pry Opie away.

Misc - There will be a CIA night. There will be way too much mustard there because CIA.

Plot twist 4 - AJ Burnett pitches in the second half.

Biggest bump in prospect status - Max Moroff.

Biggest drop in prospect status - Harold Ramirez.
