Just for comparisons sake, 15 people died at Columbine. Reports here are 26 or 27.

And 77 summer camp kids were killed on the Norway Island massacre last year.
Hunted down because they had no way to get off.

People seem to forget tragedies not in the US.

Words cannot describe how sad and awful this tragedy is. I will have nightmares thinking of the terror those small children felt before they were killed. What more can we do to protect our children? When I drop my son off at school every morning I believe that he will be safe. Am I now to believe that this is no longer the case? Who is to blame? What can be done? I am absolutely devastated by this news today.

Are college-aged folks a lesser species I'm not aware of?

People died in a horrible manner in both instances. It's fucking heinous any way you slice it, whether someone shot up a nursing home or a preschool. Jesus.

Why can't assholes like this and do the honorable thing and suck on the barrel of a gun without harming anyone else?

You guys have often used the word "nutcase" for guys like Ryan Lanza. Lanza is another example of what is termed as a "reprobate mind". That is a mind that is completely void of judgement. The craziness of this used to be much more isolated. Sadly it is on the increase.

I agree. The state of mental healthcare in this country is something that needs to be addressed. I'll talk about it at another time, as right now I'm just completely mortified by this news. It's just unbelievably tragic.

I get that it's heinous and I wasn't trying to be a dick, but the entire physicological concept around stolling into a kindergarden class and slaughtering 5 year olds is at another level.

I think I get what you're saying. Both are evil acts. No doubt about it. But to take away all those kids's futures and that ones that survived they lost their childhood. They had world in front of them and now they have years of trauma to deal with.

I can't say much, just upset that people have the capacity to kill innocent children. I hope the people that died today passed quickly. For those that survived there is no imaginable way they'll be able to return to school.

Apparently that's the wrong Ryan Lanza, too.

Bad day to be named Ryan Lanza.
