1. Adam Frazier, LF
2. Josh Harrison, 2B
3. Andrew McCutchen, CF
4. Gregory Polanco, RF
5. David Freese, 3B
6. Josh Bell, 1B
7. Francisco Cervelli, C
8. Jordy Mercer, SS
9. Trevor Williams, P

I'd flip JHay and Frazier in the batting order (whole left right left right thing), but that's probably the best starting 8 that Hurdles been able to put out there for a while.
"We’ll be comfortable adding one (starter),” he said. “We’ll be comfortable adding nobody if it’s just not there. We don’t feel we are driven to force it. If we can add one that makes sense for us, that’s great. If we can add two that make sense … then we do that.”

Pirates up 3-1 5th inning.

If they can get to Rivero with this lead somehow.

Hudson out as setup guy?

Lets hope so. The only role he's fit for is eating innings in completely unwinnable games. And honestly, there probably shouldn't be a roster spot dedicated to that role.

If Marte was still in LF and Kang at 3B, and you put Frazier in at 2B for Harrison, that's actually not a bad lineup. Certainly one that could contend for the 2nd wildcard spot. But that's how it always is with NH. If everything works out perfectly, the team can contend for the WC. But since it never does, NH fails miserably by not having adequate back-up plans.

I am not sure about that. Kang and Marte obviously would help but you still have two outfielders with a sub 90 OPS+, a SS who is doing nothing, and a young first baseman who is still trying to figure things out. That is still a weak lineup.

It won't keep up but Harrison has been very good offensively. And they still can't score runs. Imagine when he returns to normal.

Yep. It's an average lineup at best.

Yesterday, Bryce Harper signed a one-year, $21M contract for 2018. He hit a walk off homer. He is two months younger than Josh Bell.

They knew that they only got .700 OPS from catcher, SS, and second base last season and still did nothing in the off season to strengthen the lineup.

And what other organization in MLB starts the season with only 3 OFers capable of playing in the big leagues? Especially after Marte only hit 9 HRs last season and the other two underperformed. Then when they lose 1 of the 3, they move forward with only 2 OFers and make no attempt to bring in another from outside?
Nuttiing and Hurdle deserve criticism, but Opie is flat out incompetent.

Thought Hudson was done as the setup guy as of yesterday when Hurdle used Nicasio and Rivero to pitch a combined 3 innings. They'd be better off promoting Vinnie Barbarino to that job.

Jose Osuna!

Not that they have a pitcher left that can protect a 2 run lead.

Raise it!

Hurdle gets away with intentionally walking Goldschmidt, putting the tying run at second and the winning run on base in the 10th.

Somebody told Hurdle that Lamb only hits .166 vs LHP.

All he needed was a bloop single to tie it, but I guess it was the right move. Goldschmidt hit one about 500 feet earlier in the game.
