Let's just get this thread back to entertainment and movies. Golden Globes > Oscars.

Lost in all of this is that Janet Patterson's death was greatly exaggerated.

I asked my GF to ask her friend about that movie

Me: Hey when you get a chance ask Jasper if Get Out really is as good as everyone says it is.
Her: Why because he was a film major...
Me: No because he's black.

But seriously it looks interesting and I think Jordan Peele does decent work from what I've watched, usually comedies.

There's so many little things that you miss while it's happening and then later see just how much tiny detail and planning went in to the story. It's so good.

That's why I much prefer watching the Golden Globes. I feel like it's more relaxed, far less highbrow, and they're willing to nominate movies that might actually make it to screenings in my hometown.
...

The Golden Globes does split best picture into two categories, drama and comedy so maybe there's a better chance of seeing those nominees. But the opposite was true for me this year. I saw two of the Oscar nominees (Arrival and Hidden Figures). The only Golden Globe nominee I saw was Deadpool in the best comedy category (and I thought that was a bad movie).

Hidden Figures is probably the best picture I saw this year although Nocturnal Animals was pretty damn good.

The best visual effects movie I saw was Dr. Strange but the Star Wars movie was damn close.

Yeah I would say the most enjoyable were Hidden Figures and Hacksaw Ridge.

Saw both and both are very good. Uplifting in a way that you watch people overcome others' biases and succeed.

Hacksaw Ridge was probably the first time I've liked a Vince Vaughn performance since Swingers.

Andrew Garfield is sort of hit or miss too. I haven't seen the 3 hour Scorcese film he's in about monks in Japan or whatever but I heard it's good.

He was good in Hacksaw Ridge. You will see how he got into character if you wait through the end credits and watch the interviews with the person he portrayed.

Tammy and the T-Rex.
Denise Richards falls in love with teenage Paul Walker who get mauled by a lion and has his brain transplanted into the body of a T-Rex.

Still haven't been able to see Get Out but I did go to see Kong this weekend. It wouldn't have been my first choice but since my brother was going on Saturday afternoon, it was cold as hell, and it got pretty decent reviews I figured why not. I thought it was surprisingly good. A bit cliched but they took the right amount from the original story and while the characters were pretty damn cookie cutter, they were well acted. The big plus was the action sequences and special effects. Unreal. So realistic. This was CGI that was almost flawless. It's not sci-fi/fantasy CGI that can look amazing and realistic but with a base that physics doesn't work that way (or we can't do it yet). O.K. so it violated some size things in biology but that's fine. Oh, on top of all of that, the action scenes with Kong were really fun to watch, I mean really fun, highly entertaining.

I got to see Skull Island yesterday. I also enjoyed it. I liked the first 3 traditional Kiongs better, but that isn't a put down of this version at all. I just like monster movies. This ranks the lowest of the 4 simply because I like the original King story better than this storyline, but this probably had the best effects of the 4.
I am nevertheless too sensible of my defects not to think it probable that I may have committed many posting errors.

I always turn to the sports pages first, which records people's accomplishments. The front page has nothing but man's failures.

Yes. I loved The Lego Movie. It was a kids movie that was sophisticated enough to entertain adults. My kids loved Lego Batman but I was disappointed that it was pretty standard kid fare outside of a few clever things here and there.

Interesting story about how studios are thinking of doing $30 home streaming for new movies: http://variety.com/2...rly-1202013205/

Seems like a lot of the comments on reddit hate it. Personally I love it. Its not all that much more expensive for 2 people to go the movies. I assume I would be able to pause the movie or rewind 10 seconds if I missed something. And the seating in my house is way better than the theatres around here.

Also itd be great for families with kids. No babysitter, you can buy cheap snacks at the store beforehand or order pizza or something. I 100% see the appeal.
