If PSU scores less than 40 points against ND, i'll be really surprised.  I'm saying 42-14.

Hope you are right, I don't get too excited as to not get let down.

I just don't think ND is as bad as they were yesterday (I hope they are). If Ga Tech had a competent offense they would have won 50-3.

I really can't take anything away from PSU's win yesterday, they played FIU, now they didn't have any trouble and pretty much kicked their ass, but its FIU.

3 points...

1. yes, the stomped the shit out of FIU, but if penn state's run offense doesn't wake the fuck up and show more than they did in the first half on saturday, they could be in trouble later in the season.

2. if michigan's pass D doesn't improve even morelli, who is dumb as a bag of hammers, will absolutely bend them over and make them his kitty

3. wasn't jimmy clausen supposed to be the single greatest quarterback in the history of football and combined with the supreme intellect that is charlie "i just ate a D-lineman" weis mean that notre dame would win the national championship without even playing?

And yes, I am a huge psu fan and an alum.

--I worry about the run offense, too. FIU stacked the line and made them pass. But, still...it was FIU. They should have been able to move it better on the ground.

--Morelli may be stupid, but he's becoming a hell of a quarterback. He might be one of those guys who is "football smart." Kerry Collins is never going to win a Nobel Prize either, but he was a great college QB.

--On a positive note, they should be able to stomp ND next week. Especially at home, at night, with everyone drunk and loud.

3. Anyone who expects instant results from Jimmy Claussen is an idiot. Conversely, anyone who crucifies Claussen within his first two years and calls him overrated is an idiot. Allow him the chance to prove something either way.

3. I'm not expecting instant results, nor am I calling him overrated. I'm just recalling the hour long ESPN special that aired the week he declared what college he was going to go to.

most state schools have somewhat lesser requirements for in-state applicants than for out of state or international students

Actually I've heard its the other way around. If you have two B+ average students and one is in state and the other is out of state. They'll give you the nod to the out of stater since they get more money for the same student. It could depend on the school and their morals. Or I could have heard wrong. Either way. I don't think it's hard to imagine that they would want their money.

I believe you are incorrect. You can't even get into some schools virtually no matter what your grades are from out of state. We had the #1 ranked high school in the state of PA and literally had a valedictorian get wait listed at UNC and UVA - and never got in either. Now if you are in-state, it's not that tough - I know plenty of people who got into UVA from in-state and got either wait-listed or rejected from other schools. I believe the reason is that these school are REQUIRED to have a certain amount of in-state student (UVA has like 2/3, UNC I think has even more) to qualify for state funding.

Oh come on. Anthony Morelli is nothing resembling smart in any way shape or form. If he was, he'd be an all-american, because I don't think there is a better combination of arm and athleticism around. He supposedly looked more athletic today, but that's because he's always been athletic. Just like he's always been stupid.

But from what I understand the D-Line was very impressive and extremely athletic. Offensive lines typically need a bit of time to gel and didn't they move some guys around? I'm sure Austin Scott is feeling a lot of pressure as well. I heard an interview with him talking about how he wanted to have his "Larry Johnson" year. He need to just chill out and run the ball. He's a good back and doesn't need to run for 2,000 yards for that team to do well.

Now wait a second. Clausen isn't immune from criticism. But you can't criticize him much for his performance this weekend. But from watching film and that US Army All-american game you CAN call him an overrated prospect. That's fair.

2. Nope, I'm saying that because Edwards can manage a game much better than Morelli, utilize his talents much better than Morelli, and LEAD much better than Morelli.

3. Just because ESPN hypes something or someone doesn't make it that something or someone's fault.

Wait...Austin Scott is still around?

Shit.

Yes. Speaking of guys not living up to hype. He did redshirt one year. And he spent three years overweight with his fat ass sitting behind Tony Hunt.

Other then the bowl game against Florida State, where he looked like a totally different human being, he has been pretty much a waste of a scholarship.

That bowl game gives me some hope that he might be able to do something positive this year. But I'm not betting my life on it.

As important as Scott, PSU needs to get Derrick Williams going again. His freshman year was awesome, but he didn't do a damn thing last year and didn't have a particularly good game against FIU. He's in danger of turning into kind of a disappointment.
