What exactly did you want him to say? He forced him to clear out his locker and kicked him off the team.

What "team rule" did he violate? Just curious.

Paterno "It's just boys being boys"

I knew this on Monday, was just waiting for it to come out.

JoePa and everyone knew Friday morning, and he was immediately gone. That's the best way to handle it.

Talk about a waste of a highly touted recruit, he pretty much pissed his future away in more ways than one now.

"Do not conduct yourself in any manner detrimental to the program."

I'm paraphrasing the likely rule, but you get the idea. All programs have that one or something like it in their rulebook. It's usually used when a student-athlete breaks a law or commits a crime and the team will be leaving all actions up to the judicial process.

It's open-ended enough that it can encompass anything, but it's ambiguous enough that it keeps the details out of the media until something happens with the charges - whether they're filed, dropped, whatever.

It's been "known" since Saturday. They had no choice but to kick him to the curb.

I get a kick out the Penn State message board posters who threw the people under the bus when they reported it on the boards.

They did the same thing with the road rage incident, calling the guy who posted about it every name in the book.

Actually they knew Friday morning, not Saturday, it was announced immediately on Friday, it just didn't get out until Saturday.

All I know is if you're a girl and you ask a drunk guy back to your place at 2:00 am, what the fuck do you think he wants to do? And by inviting him, aren't you insuating that he's going to score?

It's called the judicial process. It takes time, and it's not complete. They've only gotten to the point where they have arraigned him.

Same process happens with every other person in the United States. Commit crime, victim brings charges, investigation takes place, charges dropped or arraignment occurs.

Generally speaking, of course.

When was the last time you were on a college campus? There's plenty that occurs at 2am amongst drunk people that doesn't involve sex.

Well obviously this is true and there is no defending anyone who is being charged with raping someone.

But for the most part, the idea is...

Drink
Go to bar
Drink More
Find Girls
Meet Girls
Dance with girls
Make out with girls
Go home with girl

then of course cue the music...

well that's just me maybe

Don't put words in your mouth? "Asking for trouble" and "asking for it" sounds like you think this girl was asking to be raped because she brought someone back to her apartment.

I don't have to put the words in your mouth. They're already there, just in a very slightly hidden form.

Again while not condoning rape as its an extremely serious offense.

If I am out at a bar and am drinking and meet a girl who is drinking, later she invites me back to her place, here are a list of things I know aren't going to happen:

Playing Board Games
Doing Homework
Sleeping

Things I understand could happen:

More drinking
Making Out
Showing the "O" Face
Someone passing out before anything happens
Waking up the next day ready to Coyote Ugly myself

This incident supposedly occurred around 2am. That's the time the bars close.

It's entirely possible that they were going back to her apartment to continue drinking and partying. Who knows if there was anyone else with them. None of that is clear from the incident.

But NYPirate is sitting here automatically assuming that since a guy went back to a girl's apartment at 2am, he's free to have sex with her.

So just because the guy is "thinking" he's got the green light to land his plane on her landing strip, it's the girl's fault?

Whatever happened to "No" or "Not Tonight" or anything along those lines?

For all we know, it might be consensual sex like Scott's attorney is arguing. But if Scott forced himself upon this girl, it's certainly not her fault.

Getting raped is not her fault. She shouldn't have taken him back to her place, that's all.

Again, we don't know why they went back to her apartment. Bars close at 2. This happened around 2.

She could have simply said that they could keep drinking and partying there. She has that right to continue her night as she sees fit.

What if by "going back to her apartment" it was Scott walking her back, forcing his way in, and raping her that way?

You're jumping to conclusions by arguing that she let Scott come in to the apartment and that it all started in there.

And I have a hard time believing that a forced entry into an on-campus apartment would go unnoticed.

All I know is if you're a girl and you ask a drunk guy back to your place at 2:00 am, what the fuck do you think he wants to do? And by inviting him, aren't you insuating that he's going to score?

When was the last time you were on a college campus? There's plenty that occurs at 2am amongst drunk people that doesn't involve sex.

Most of my college life didn't involve sex. NYPirate still lives in that age where if a woman is up past midnight, she absolutely is looking to get laid.

You opened the can of worms first. I'm arguing the other side of things. You said on the very first page of this thread that:

I've just been bringing up the other side of things throughout this whole deal.

This girl was asking to be raped? Yes. Women just love to be held against their will and violated. It's such a rush!

What a cocksucker you are.

Don't put words in my mouth. If a girl brings a random guy back to her place she's asking for trouble. It's not that hard to figure out.

You are one dense fuck. The guy crossing the street at two AM is asking for trouble too but he doesn't deserve to be crushed by the drunk driver.

Forced entry can be as simple as she opens the door to go after saying good night, and he, the stronger football player, gets his hand on the door, forces himself in, and commits the crime.

Again, being an on-campus apartment and supposedly everyone coming home from the bars, I find it hard to believe someone wouldn't notice a forced entry.

Why, he's out drinking late at night, when other people are drinking, he's crossing a street where drunk drivers are, how is it different?

By the way, exactly what are you saying about the girl and women in general? Are you really saying that no women can enjoy themselves late in the evening without sex. Are you saying that all women are the same?

No, you said she was "asking for it".

Leaving your car unlocked in a bad area of town (apparently Oakland) would be "asking" for your car or at least your radio to be stolen. Fine. But using that with rape.... no. It heavily implies that the crime was the fault of the victim, and that is just not right. That's only a couple of steps away from forcing women to wear burkas, because she'd be "asking for it" if she wore anything more revealing.

I'm standing by my opinion

If a girl is going to bring a random drunk guy back to her room by themselves then she's asking for trouble.

If you don't like my opinion tough shit.

Can any of you actually say it was a good decision bringing random drunk guy back to her place?

Would you be happy with your daughter bringing back drunk guy to her place? Would you say "It's ok, they probably just want to drink more"?

Again, you're blaming the victim, just like my example, you would blame the guy crossing the street when the potential for drunk drivers being on the road is higher.

Bad decisions doesn't even begin to imply that someone is asking for it. Perhaps she thought the guy was a nice guy and had no intention of forcing himself on her. Perhaps she's just young as such is prone to bad decisions. Nothing implies that she was asking for it.

If I had a daughter, I would tell her to avoid all situations that could cause her harm. But again, if this girl were my daughter, I wouldn't accuse her of asking for it and I would not place any blame on her. The victim is not to be blamed.

Finally, if I had a daughter, I would show her this thread. I would tell her to avoid any small minded doof like you.

over/under on the percentage of women that NYPirate has been with that were "asking for it"???

75%??? 85%???

you gotta have some fucking balls to say that a girl who was raped was "asking for it".

no matter if she made a bad decision in bringing him to her apartment (or whatever the situation was) or not, she definitely was not asking to be raped.

Dolt! You weren't saying she made a stupid, you said she was asking for it. There is a big difference.

Don't blame PC. You said something extraordinarily stupid. Own up to it.

Yeah, what she did wasn't very smart. But I see no difference between saying she was "asking for it" and "deserved it" in this context.

Of course there is, but when a girl invites a random guy back to her place she's asking for it.

I guess you're the "friend" type.

I think of all the idiotic statements in this thread by NYPirate, this is the worst (but honestly, the competition was stiff).

By saying "I guess you're the 'friend' type" he seems to be insulting Herm . . . but what is the insult . . . "Nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah . . . Herm's not a rapist"??

Jesus Herm, you're such a fucking pussy . . . if a girl asks you back to her room, she's asking for it . . . if you don't score, no matter what the circumstances after you've been asked back to her room, you're worthy of our ridicule.

Rape her if you have to, but don't come back without your dick wet.

What did you guys think of the Natalie Holloway thing? The girl that went missing in Aruba?

stirthepot.gif

As a parent, I thought her parents made stupid decision to let her go with a group 100+ teenagers, with only 7 chaperons. I don't think she deserved her fate, whatever it is, nor do I think the parents should suffer the loss of their child. Even though it appears that both the girl and the parents made bad decisions, the sole blame for what happened belongs to those who perpetrated the crime.

Well I guess the interpretations of "asking for it" differ. "It" meaning nothing good can come from letting a random guy in your place at 2:00 am. I just love how you fucks spin things.

If he forced herself on this woman, then obviously there is no excuse. No one "asks" to be raped.

However, the Duke lacrosse case should be enough to convince people not to rush to judgment before the facts are in.

Lady and Gentlemen, I give you, as Asshat of the Month...... NYP!!!!!!!!!

Laadeeedadee, Whoooopeee, Hoooraaay......

And let me tell you, you guys have got it all wrong. Its not NYP's ridiculously stupid comments about girls asking for it, or black quarterbacks, or whatever other stupid threads he has jumped into dick first. Its because of the first sentence above. No matter how stupid a post he makes, he never backs down, and he argues with anyone who questions his stupid post.

Relentless stupidity puts regular stupidity to shame. And its what qualifies you as an asshat.

Remember the motto, no matter how big the foot is in my mouth, I'm just going to keep swallowing like Linda Lovelace.

Congrats NYP, party at 10, replays at midnight, gang rape of you at 2.

That wasnt peanut butter, it was the Bloomin Onion sauce.

While NYPIrate is a fucking assclown, and shouldn't have ever used the phrases "asking for it" or "deserved it," but he does have kind of a point.

Much like not hanging out in East Liberty if you're white, girls should never invite guys back to their rooms at 2 am after 1. a night of drinking and 2. meeting said guy in the bar. Said conduct can reasonably be interpreted as "i want to be more than just friends with you herrm" (though I doubt those words have ever been spoken).

Now, I'm not one to ever force myself on a girl, but I've definitely gone home with girls post-bar and there was only one thing on both of our minds. At the very least, there was at least some making out, but usually a lot more. Now, this is not untypical. Girls aren't stupid. They know what they're implying when they ask you to come home with them. If they didn't want at least *something* to happen, they shouldn't ask, or they are potentially putting theirselves in a compromising position.

That being said, no one knows the details. Maybe she came home with him and only wanted to hook up with no sex, and when he got on top of her, he wouldn't stop when she said that things had gone as far as she wanted, and he did rape her. Maybe she passed out and he had sex with her (which is totally uncalled for, and also, is rape).

Then again, maybe she brought him home, had sex with him, and then got pissed at herself for doing it, and figured that because she was drunk, she would be absolved of it and possibly make some money by suing the school and the football program for not providing a safe on campus environment or for endangering her safety by letting someone into the school that would do stuff like that.

As I said, I'm really interested in the details here. Until I find out that he did something egregious, i'm going to err on Scott's side because that situation usually indicates she wanted physical intimacy to occur, whether Herrm and his Monopoly-playing-and-knitting-mittens-at-2-am female friends want to admit so or not.

...are the same two people who have a history of questionable comments towards another race or gender on this message board.

I am completely chivalrous and have a lot of manners. I treat women well and with respect whenever I am with them.

That doesn't mean I've never hooked up with a girl after the bar, which just about everyone on this board has. I think Zimm made some good points earlier.

There's a difference between chivalry and a girl implying she wants to hook up with you. Maybe one day, if you're lucky, before you're 40, you'll know what I'm talking about.

EDIT: I jsut talked to my female friend that just graduated Pitt two years ago. She loves football so I told her about the Austin Scott thing. I asked her, if she had ever brought a guy back to her house after the bar at 2 am and NOT intended something to happen. Answer: Never. Expanded answer: "That whole situation sounds like she's making it up. A girl doesn't bring a guy back to her place after the bar if she doesn't want something to happen"

Which one am I to believe? The person you SAY you are or the person that comes through in your posts?

All I said is that women are irrational thinkers and they speak in generalities. Most women will admit this. Many have to me. Another female friend of mine even said "I wouldn't vote for Hilary solely because women make emotional decisions too often."

Just because they have these character traits doesn't make me treat them any less well.

Idiot.

Does your post imply that you are a woman?

EDIT: I jsut talked to my female friend that just graduated Pitt two years ago.  She loves football so I told her about the Austin Scott thing.  I asked her, if she had ever brought a guy back to her house after the bar at 2 am and NOT intended something to happen.  Answer: Never.  Expanded answer: "That whole situation sounds like she's making it up. A girl doesn't bring a guy back to her place after the bar if she doesn't want something to happen"

But what if the girl changed her mind.

Or had second thoughts.

Or began to sober up.

Or realized she didn't shave her legs.

Or ANY OTHER REASON.

I'm sorry, as it may not be such a good idea for women to bring strange drunk men back to their apartments, it's not an open invitation to the men to have their way with them .

I completely agree. I said as much in my first post. If she had passed out, or he kept going after she said no, lock the fucker up.

I just said I'm holding judgment until the facts come out, but based on the situation, I'd say its more likely that she wanted it to happen, based on the facts that are out now. If he had broke into her dorm and did this, it'd be different. It sounds like he was invited back after the bar, so that changes the situation.

And your sample size of one woman and then assuming that she is representative of most women is an example of logical thinking? If I worked by that logic, I would have conclude that 80% of all Americans are in the military.

Sometimes you make me want to give my license back to the Texas bar. How can you have excelled at something that you havent done yet. You just passed the bar a week ago. Have you already won three cases in front of the Supreme Court? The logic of your post leaves out a lot of logic.

I said field of study, not practice or the actual field.

Maybe you should turn in your license, since you clearly can't read, and you know, every word usually is important in your profession.

The remaining 20% will consist of the progeny of the Bushes, Roves, Cheneys, Santorums and Romneys.

Since I know nothing about this particular case, I was speaking in generalities.

Which I guess makes me a woman.

Who would have thought, that on the day Austin Scott was charged with rape we'd have a thread with 100 replies... yet the thread isn't about

A. Austin Scott
B. Penn St.
C. Joe Paterno

Monarch,

Most women will admit they are irrational thinkers and speak in generalities? You are out of your fucking mind.

First of all, women are more apt to make logical decisions that are tempered with compassion. That does not mean it is an emotional decision. Many women are extremely pragmatic in their professional lives and personal lives.

Saying women are irrational thinkers shows how absolutely small minded you are. You brag and brag about being brilliant because you are a lawyer and therefore possess some magic logic that no one of the female persuasion could possibly have.

I have news for you, because you are so narrow minded, I guarantee there are going to be dozens and dozens of women lawyers who are going to chew you up and spit you out in the courtroom.

I can never determine if you are just young and inexperienced in life that you are so blistering blinded in your chauvenistic attitude, or whether you really are just stupid. It's probably a combination.

Like I said before, if there are women telling you they are irrational thinkers and speak in generalities by the droves as you say....then you need to stop befriending battered women in shelters and mental institutions.
